We guide each narrator through the journey of telling his or her story making the experience as simple and enjoyable as possible.
Initial Consultation During your initial complimentary meeting we will discuss your ideas and hopes for your project. We will start to plan our production schedule and discuss your budget. Once you are satisfied with all the details we can schedule our interviews.
Interview phase The number of interviews will depend on the scope of your project. Most interviews last from 1.5 to 2 hours and are conducted in your home or office. It is important that we have a quiet, comfortable place with a minimum of distractions.
Transcription Interviews are digitally recorded and transcribed by our professional transcriptionist.
The unedited recordings will be archived on a usb drive and presented to you upon completion of your project.
Research phase Because the times in which you have lived impact your story, our team will do historical background research to provide cultural context for your stories.
Writing phase Once we have the components of your story gathered our team will get to work organizing and building your narrative. We will share a first chapter or section for your approval before embarking on the entire manuscript. Our goal in the writing phase is to combine all of the elements of your story into a cohesive narrative that your readers will enjoy and recognize as your voice.
Editing phase We will meet again to review your manuscript. Once your changes have been incorporated you will have one more chance to review the manuscript and captions before the design phase. This final draft will be what you read once your project is complete.
Photo management You are welcome to gather photos for your project throughout our process. As we near the design phase our team will help you to finalize your choice of photos that best illustrate and compliment your story. Each photo will be scanned in your home and digitally archived. We can assist you with any restoration or retouching of photos. Once we have selected the photos for your project we will write captions and decide together where photos will be placed within your narrative.
Design phase Our expert book designer will craft a custom cover and layout to suit your personal style. Some clients can describe what they want easily while others use books in their own libraries as examples. Your book can be designed to look like anything you see in a bookstore but will be as unique as you are.
Sign-off A final proof will be offered for your approval and sign-off before printing.
Printing and binding There are so many options for papers, covers, printing and binding, we will help you select the best options for your project.
Delivery and celebration! We truly believe that delivering your books is cause for celebration. Whether you choose to celebrate in a small or large way we can help you plan. Some clients throw a book signing party others present their book to the local library or historical society. How will you celebrate?
Timing Most projects can be completed in 9-12 months. Our focus is on providing a quality product and helping you to enjoy the journey of the project as much as the finished product. If you have a special birthday or anniversary by which you would like a completed project we recommend planning early to begin with plenty of time to spare.
